Objectives
The 22nd International Conference on Perspectives in Business Informatics Research (BIR 2023) continues the tradition of annual events focused on opening perspectives and stimulating new roadmaps for Business Informatics, Business Information Systems and Information Systems Engineering, considering both fundamental research and key application areas. BIR 2023 will provide a rich environment for exchanging research findings and ideas among scientists, practitioners, and doctoral students. The central theme of the 2023 edition is Business Informatics for Sustainable Innovation. The strategic importance of enterprise modelling for Sustainable Innovations has been recognized by an increasing number of companies and public agencies. Enterprise modelling delivers the ‘blueprints’ for co-designing and aligning business and enterprise information systems such that they optimally complement each other. As an example consider the support of business processes by process-aware information systems. Achieving such interplay requires a multi-perspective approach taking organizational, economic, and technical aspects into account. In a world of cloud, social and big data, additional challenges for enterprise modelling and the design of information systems architectures are introduced, e.g., in respect to the design of data-driven processes or processes enabling cross-enterprise collaboration. To deal with these challenges, close cooperation of researchers from different disciplines such as information systems, business informatics, and computer science will be required.
Submission guidelines
BIR 2023 welcomes original unpublished contributions that have not been reviewed elsewhere. All papers must be original and not simultaneously submitted to another journal or conference. As in tradition of the BIR conference all accepted papers will be published in the Springer LNBIP series. The following paper categories are welcome:
Research papers describing original research contributions (theoretical, methodological or conceptual). Exploratory papers introducing new ideas and directions for research by analyzing the current state of the art, identifying the gaps that need to be addressed, and introducing an approach as a means to bridge them. Practice papers discussing problems or challenges that organizations (private or public) face, relate them to the wider domain and provide useful insights to practitioners from similar organizations and contexts.
Authors should consult Springer's authors' guidelines and use their proceedings templates, either for LaTeX or for Word, for the preparation of their papers. Springer encourages authors to include their ORCIDs in their papers. In addition, the corresponding author of each paper, acting on behalf of all of the authors of that paper, must complete and sign a Consent-to-Publish form (this will be made available to authors of accepted papers). The corresponding author signing the copyright form should match the corresponding author marked on the paper. Once the files have been sent to Springer, changes relating to the authorship of the papers cannot be made.
All submissions must be unpublished and not be under review elsewhere. Page limit for all papers is 15 pages. Inclusion in the proceedings volume is conditioned by having at least one author registration per paper and having the paper presented during the conference. No abstract submission is expected.
